Spooky September Challenge: Ten scariest books

There are 59 more days to Halloween and I am excited so it was great to join this challenge organized by Parajunkee. Todays topic is top ten scariest and spookiest books. I havent read a lot of scary books but I will do my best to tell you about the books that gave me the creeps or just had a haunting vibe, in no particular order.

This book is so beautifully dark and it is full of scary moments and sad moments. Also, the gothic feel to it made this book one of my favorites.

Vampires and Amish? Now this book was unique to me and it scared the crap out of me a few times.

I read Dracula when I was fourteen and then it was a scary book. I loved vampires even then, but this book truly gave me goosebumps.

Anything Poe wrote was beautiful and haunting and spooky but Masque of the Red Death stayed with me through the years because it was short yet it had a hard impact. Truly terrifying.

One of the best books I have read in recent years, a story full of gothic influence, really scary moments and beautiful in its horror.

The sequel also didnt disappoint, it was equally scary and charming.

A book from a Croatian author recently translated in english is still one of my favorite books of all time. Full of violence, love, vampires, death, this is the book that scared me the most.

This trilogy is beautifully written and full of chilling moments, where you never know when and where danger will come.

Fleurs du Mal is poetry at its most hanting, spooky yet so beautiful.

Stines Fear  Street series were among the first series I have read and at the time, since I was about twelve, it terrified me. Today I look on them with fond memories.

What are your favorite scary books? Leave me a comment.
That is it for today, tune in again tomorrow for more spooky.

  1. I'm sad to say that I haven't read ANY OF these. Not one. I have Between the Spark ARC but I should PROBABLY read the first one...

  2. I forgot about R.L. Stine books. I use to read Christopher Pike books too.

  3. Lol, I was more of a Pike girl, but yeah, Stine's Fear Street was pretty awesome. I love, love, loved Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, but have been terrified to read the sequel, so it still sits on my shelves... however, now that I know that you weren't disappointed, I'm going to have to dive in this fall!

  4. Memories.... with the RL Stine books, I preferred Pike like Kate, but I did like a good Stine book. I also loved the Aguirre series. :D Thanks for doing the challenge with me!
